How we run a remote team across five time zones
Twenty four people from Portland to Lisbon, and a rule that nothing important happens only in a call.

Our team spans nine hours. That means somebody is always asleep when a decision gets made.
The rule we settled on is simple: calls are for talking, threads are for deciding. If a call decides something, someone posts it in the thread before they log off.
It costs two minutes per meeting and saves the person in Lisbon a morning of catching up.
